Compared to other coatings, zinc provides active cathodic corrosion protection in addition to shielding. Zinc can act as a sacrificial anode compared to the more valuable iron. This effect also protects the substrate in case of post-coating damage (scratches or impact marks). Additional properties can be achieved through passivation, sealing and other similar processes.

CNC machined parts with galvanized surface treatment

Galvanizing, also known in the industry as cold galvanizing, is a process that uses electrolysis to form a uniform, dense, well-bonded anodic metal or alloy deposit on the surface of manufactured parts. A relatively inexpensive and easy-to-coat metal compared to other metals, zinc is a low-value corrosion-resistant coating that is widely used to protect steel parts, especially against atmospheric corrosion, and for decorative purposes.

CNC Machined Parts Chemical Nickel Plating

Instead of depositing ions by applying an electric current, this electroless nickel plating process chemically reduces nickel ions to the metal substrate in an electroless nickel plating solution. As a result, the electroless nickel layer does not suffer from many of the problems associated with conventional electrolytic nickel plating, such as edge buildup and uneven coatings. Electroless nickel plating is very uniform, resistant to corrosion and erosion, and has excellent lubricating properties.
